The Purpose of Public Education
President George Washington opined public education should "...teach the science of government." In 1904, as the industrial age exploded with promise, Congress funded and mandated industrial arts education for every secondary male pupil!
"Prepare students for employment in the industrial workforce" joined "...the science of government" as the statement of public education's purpose.
Purposeful focus upon the needs of pupils is quite new, needed and resisted by established leadership (See OUR STORY.)
